Originally written in 2003 in Java to address the need of a real time financial system Financial Portal has been expanded and is now a transaction system as well as an accounting system. Financial Portal is designed for Small and Medium Customers who need to improve their financial visibility into the ever changing global supply chains and changing distribution channels and need the flexibility to map financial relationships without losing control or auditability.

Design points include: simple transaction reversal and modification without losing the audit trail, Reporting is real time through the Information Portal. Every operational transaction with financial impact is immediately posted to the General Ledger.
It takes a while for executives to get comfortable with seeing the real time status of the companies if they were used to highly polished monthly statements (often produced later). Finding out at month end became less valuable over time. Up to date information allowed earlier investigative or corrective action much sooner.

Real Time Transaction Cycle:
The Transaction System allows companies to easily automate their Selling and Purchasing Cycles. The Selling Cycle has Blanket Sales Orders, Packing List, and Individual Sales Contracts. The Purchasing Cycle has Blank Purchase Orders, Warehouse Receivers, Individual Purchase Order Receipts. Inventory Managent provides complete inventory tracking with the ability to upload inventory adjustments. Transaction voiding creates a financial and inventory audit trail of the transaction reversal. Brokerage and Direct Shipment processing will be available in a future release.

A Real Time Financial and Accounting system giving companies the ability to control and track their financial flow in the global economy. Designed to be flexible and easy-to-use, the Financial Portal can be run as a stand alone application or integrated. Release Notes Financial Portal Release 1.2.0 (Oct 2009)
We have been working with an accountant who is doing a "forensic reconstruction" for a company (meaning he is working from very limited data to reconstruct their detailed transactions). Here are some of the key changes in Release 1.2.0 of the 2nd Derivative Financial Portal:.
- Made some fixes and changes to the trial balance
- Added some nice reporting to the account inquiry in the General Ledger.
- Purchase receipts will credit a purchase accrual account defined in your company default accounts. The vendor invoice should debit this account. This will give you visibility into your outstanding purchasing liabilities.
- Journal Entries now warn you if the current financial period is different then the transaction and also calculates the difference between debits and credits and displays it in red.
- Your initial installation of Financial Portal will now include a simple but full chart of accounts.
- Made a number of changes to the Bank/Credit Card Reconciliation

Financial Portal is a J2EE Web application and was developed with the Eclipse IDE using the MyEclipse package, unit test are JUnit, the regression tests are in Selenium and the reports were developed using Jasper Reports Performance testing is done with JMeter.
